We're super excited to share this handcrafted anointing oil with you!

Inspired by God's recipe given to Moses, this oil is a mix of essential oils extracted from original ingredients. We added sweet almond oil to dilute the formula since cinnamon and cassia oils are very hot. The Biblical measurements were converted to modern day units.

It is not a common essential oil for cosmetic or perfume purposes. Nope! This must be something sacred, created for those special moments of prayer, consecration and blessing.

This anointing oil can be used in personal or group prayer times, just like priests used it in the Tabernacle to set things apart for God’s purpose. Different interpretations of Exodus 30 might spark discussion, but we'll give you our humble opinion. Below, you’ll find scriptures that explain the oil’s purpose and symbolism in both the Old and New Testaments, providing deeper insights for your study.

THE LORD'S INSTRUCTIONS TO MOSES

In Exodus 30:22-25, the Lord instructs Moses on the composition of the sacred oil, a blend of pure myrrh, sweet-cinnamon, fragrant cane (calamus), cassia, and olive oil. This sacred anointing oil was designated for the consecration of the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, the table and its articles, the candlestick and vessels, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, sanctifying them so they would be most holy (Exodus 30:26-29). It was also used for anointing Aaron and his sons, consecrating them to serve as priests to the Lord (Exodus 30:30).

THE WARNING

There is a specific prohibition against replicating this oil for personal use, as stated in Exodus 30:31-33. It says: "‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come. Do not pour it on anyone else’s body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred. Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people.’”

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR NEW COVENANT BELIEVERS?

The New Testament, however, introduces a new covenant through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, making believers a "royal priesthood" (1 Peter 2:9). This priesthood of all believers signifies that through Christ, the distinctions between priests and a layperson in relation to God have been abolished (a layperson is a member of the church congregation who is not ordained into a specific ministry role). Every believer is considered holy, with the HOLY SPIRIT dwelling within them, as noted in 1 Corinthians 3:16, "Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?"

While Christians are indeed anointed by the Holy Spirit and considered a royal priesthood in the New Testament sense, the specific physical anointing oil recipe given in Exodus was tied to the Old Covenant, and its specific religious rites and ceremonies.

The New Testament emphasizes the spiritual anointing by the Holy Spirit

2 Corinthians 1?:21-22, "And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put His seal on us and given us His Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee."

Even though our anointing now comes from the Holy Spirit and NOT from a physical substance, the New Testament does mention the use of oil in a different context, reflecting the continued practice of anointing as a SYMBOL, being primarily associated with healing and the symbolic act of setting something or someone apart for God's purpose.

While the disciples and early Christians continued the practice of anointing, the focus SHIFTS from a cerimonial consecration to a tangible expression of seeking God's intervention and blessing. In my opinion, this reflects the broader theological transition from the Old Covenant to the New, where symbols and practices of the Old Testament find their fulfillment and transformation in Christ and His teachings.

ALTHOUGH WE CAN USE OIL TO ANOINT IN THE CONTEXT OF HEALING AND SETTING APART, IT'S CRUCIAL TO UNDERSTAND THAT OIL ITSELF HAS NO POWER! ALL POWER COMES FROM PRAYER AND FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT ALONE.
